Dental Implants

Dental implants are the most advanced way to replace missing teeth. This treatment involves the surgical placement of a titanium post in the jawbone. Because this post fuses with the jawbone through a process known as osseointegration, dental implants provide the strongest possible tooth replacement. This helps free your child from some very adult concerns, including the possible cleaning and maintenance of partial dentures or other dental restorations. After the implant has fused with the jawbone, our pediatric dentist will craft natural-looking replacement teeth. The replacement teeth are then placed on the titanium post, and your child can leave our office without having to give the replacement tooth any more thought or attention than they would their own natural teeth.

Tooth Extractions

A tooth extraction becomes necessary when dental restorations or other procedures are not enough to save a tooth. When a tooth extraction becomes necessary, our staff serving Teaneck, New Jersey and Flushing, Queens, and Bronx, New York use advanced anesthetic techniques to ensure your child's discomfort is minimal. Because our practice offers dental implants and dental bridges for children, your child can replace his or her missing tooth with a completely natural-looking restoration.

Dr. Jacobson also provides wisdom tooth extraction at our offices located in Teaneck, New Jersey and Flushing, Queens, and Bronx, New York. A wisdom tooth extraction is performed when your child's third and final set of molars grow into the mouth improperly and cause undue stress on surrounding teeth. If a wisdom tooth grows properly, they are just as useful as other teeth. Unfortunately, this is typically not the case, and your child will likely have to have his or her wisdom teeth extracted.

Wisdom teeth typically develop when a person is between the ages of 18 and 20, although this can vary. The following symptoms may indicate that your child's wisdom teeth have erupted and surfaced, and should be removed:

  • Pain
  • Infection in the mouth
  • Facial swelling
  • Swelling of the gum line in the back of the mouth

Root Canal Therapy

Although root canal therapy is rarely needed in children, there are instances when an older child may require treatment. Our practice provides root canal therapy in order to save damaged teeth and reduce the likelihood that a tooth will need to be extracted. By saving existing teeth, root canal therapy also prevents the need for more costly dental restorations to replace missing teeth.

Root canal therapy is performed in order to remove damaged or dead pulp from the root canal of a tooth. The procedure involves cleaning out the diseased pulp and reshaping the canal. The canal is then filled with a rubber-like material or a dental post to prevent recontamination of the tooth. The tooth is then permanently sealed with either a gold or porcelain crown, enabling your child to retain their original tooth.
